Children are scientists at heart. They are natural explorers, inventors, and builders and curious about how the world works. However, research shows that, by the time children reach the third grade, many are “turned off” to science because they find it difficult, dull, or confusing.
SciTech Kids challenges how children have traditionally been taught science. Our science experts help kids experience science as an engaging process of inquiry and discovery. Children are placed in the role of primary investigator and are immersed in hands-on activities that draw upon their sense of curiosity and adventure.
Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” -Ben Franklin
A Culture of Thinkers
SciTech Kids creates a culture of thinkers. We create rich opportunities for children to become more discerning observers and active learners. While experimenting and tinkering, our kids ask questions, make decisions, communicate, and collaborate with others—21st century skills that not only help them make meaningful connections between science and everyday life but, also, build academic success.
At SciTech Kids, children develop a love of science and technology through our summer camp, preschool program, after-school programs, in-school workshops, school break camps, and special events.
Unleash your child’s inner mad-scientist, engineer, or innovator at SciTech Kids
Preparing today’s children to be tomorrow’s scientifically engaged adults requires that all children have opportunities to learn and practice science, develop scientific ways of thinking, and in some cases become the scientists who will help to create our future.” (Coalition for Science After School, 2007)
According to the International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), American students lag far behind students in the other major industrialized countries in both science and math. In our work with students, SciTech Kids has found that while students often complained that they had difficulty learning these subjects, they excel when the content is presented with real-world examples, applications, and experiences.
Realizing the need for innovative science programs taught by scientists, SciTech Kids’ mission is to develop preK-12 initiatives that get kids excited about (STEM) science, technology, engineering, and math through a variety of fun, hands-on preschool, after-school, and camp programs.
Imagine a world in which eight-year old children, wearing lab coats and safety goggles, conduct science experiments, and explore the mysteries of the body by dissecting frogs. Where they play detective at a crime scene to identify whodunit based on DNA fingerprinting, or build a six-legged robot that shoots soccer balls.
In this world, children are actively involved in the learning process because they play a role in directing what they learn. They make connections, invent, flex their imaginative muscles and develop critical thinking, an essential skill in today’s fast paced world. This is SciTech Learning.
